Stockinette stitch is a favourite for many reasons, but due to its classic and timeless finish and its ease, it is one of my go-to stitches. In this blog, you’ll learn how to do stockinette stitch, featuring a video tutorial and a basic step-by-step guide (note you will need to know your stitches to follow this but it is all covered in the video!)

Step-by-step guide on how to do stockinette stitch
- Cast on your stitches, this stitch you don’t need to cast on a certain number of stitches, so it can be an odd or even number.
- Knit the first row, you need to knit every stitch in your row.
- The next row, purl all the stitches until the end of the row.
- Repeat step 2 and 3 until you have finished your work
- Cast off. Tip: I would recommend finishing on a knit row (step 2) and then casting off.
