free crochet and knitted cat patterns

If you are like me and have cats, the idea of dressing them up is a bit daunting, until you throw the word YARN into the sentence. Like any knitter, as soon as the concept for a new project comes into my head I am off buying yarn, printing patterns and away we go. This blog is a blend of crochet and knitting projects that you can have fun making and enjoy sharing with your pet. Don’t worry, not everything is wearable! There is a cat sofa pattern and very cute stocking pattern – purrfect for those pets who aren’t into wearable fashion!

As I write this blog, Luna is sat next to me purring away at the idea of this one. The Mr Jingles cat toy from Wool and The Gang has been on the to do list for a little white. I printed the pattern a while ago but hey, this blog and Luna’s happiness may be what I need to spur on making Mr. Jingles! This is a cheeky little knitted mouse toy that you can choose to fill with stuffing or cat nip if you want to make your kittens extra happy. It’s a great project for using up scrap yarn! This is rated as an easy project.

It’s a small, fast knitting project ideal for last-minute crafting or making multiple toys for friends with pets, making it the perfect gift!

2. Crochet Cat Couch (Red Heart Yarns)

I don’t know about you but I LOVE the idea of my cat relaxing on their own little crocheted couch, being regal as ever. I just love this miniature sofa for pets, complete with armrests and back cushions. Its something that *should* last a long time – and is great for cats that love to be snuggly. This is rated as an easy project.

3. Cat Paws Christmas Crochet Stocking Pattern (Red Heart Yarns)

Also from Red Heart Yarns, this crochet cat stocking is a great make to be able to enjoy throughout the years with your pet, especially if you love to spoil them at Christmas. This is a good one to put on the list to make later on in the year.  This crochet project features a paw-shaped details that add a playful pet twist to the traditional holiday stocking. Personalise the stocking by adding your name and hang it by the fireplace. This is a good one for all pet owners, who’s to say its not a dog paw!

4. Stylish Pet Scarf (Red Heart, however this is a very easy make yourself without a pattern!!)

A scarf is one of the easiest makes in the book, perfect for beginner knitters. If you are early on in your knitting journey and want to make matching scarfs for you and your pet, this is a great project. You can use a pattern or cast on as many stitches as you would like for it to be wide and knit away in stockinette stitch alternating with garter stitch to your desired length. This pattern features a button detail to secure the scarf. There is a tutorial here you can follow to make a button hole if you want to make your own pattern.

5. The International Cat Hat (France Le Mieux from Spindles and Spices)

Something to match your scarf, a beret for your cat! I actually think this is the most fantastic pet pattern I have ever come across, purely for how sophisticated the design is and that it adds to the illusion that we mere humans are servants to our cats – who out rank us in class and style.

This knitted hat turns your feline into a Parisian icon (Think Emily in Paris cat edition) with a beret-style design. Whether you’re looking for a costume idea or just a hilarious Instagram moment, this project will not disappoint.
