Happy New Year | Setting Goals for 2024

It’s a New Year!! This year is a leap year, so 366 days to set some new goals, habits and live life to the fullest. If you’re like me you’ve already got your list of goals for 2024, but I thought I would take a little time out of my morning to write a blog on a few tips on setting goals for the year and in general to make it more likely you’ll stick to those New Year Resolutions.

Categorise your goals

Creating categories for your goals allows you to see what areas of your life they will impact and for you to see if you’re setting too many in the same category that it makes it unachievable. I would recommend setting categories such as financial goals, health goals, that allow you to clearly see what your aims for the year are. This leads me nicely to the next point on this list…

Make SMART goals

Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound.

You want to make sure all of your goals are specific, stating exactly what you want to achieve for the year. That they are measurable either in quantity such as how much you will save each month or how much water you want to drink each day. Ensure that your goals are achievable, that they are realistic so you won’t find yourself two weeks into January having flopped at your goals! Make sure that they are relevant to what you want to achieve or your overall goal for the year e.g. be healthier. Then finally, make sure there is a time frame for you to achieve your goals…

Set a goal or a habit for each month rather than the year

Breaking down what you want to achieve over the year and to achieve in specific months will make it easier to form solid habits. It will also help you in terms of being able to set realistic goals that will not just be a NY resolution that flops. It will also allow you to set multiple goals in different categories that you can build easily into your routine and daily life.

Don’t feel like you have to set NY resolutions

Finally, if setting New Year Resolutions aren’t for you, don’t feel like you have to set goals. If you want to just get on with life and see where it takes you, do it. If you want to set goals for each month, each week or each day, do it. It is your life, the concept of making resolutions at the start of each year is entirely personal and it is totally ok to just say, I am going to make this year my year!

Wishing you all a fantastic year with friends, family and loved ones. Let’s make the most of this year!
